The Crusades increase the wealth of churches as the Church’s wealth was increased through conquered land. Buildings were sold to the church for a portion of their real price and with the new land that the Church bought, it was able to gain power. The thousands of injured hurt men would have religious retreats in the Church and this costed a lot of money which brought the net worth of the Church down. The effects of the Catholic Church during the Crusades effected the lives of everyone within Western Europe. The Catholic Church tried to inspire young men to help keep the holy land in the name of Christianity which made people follow the Church and therefore they participated in the crusades. The biggest negative effect was the worsened Christian-Muslim relations within the Church. The war caused all friendly relations to vanish for many generations. The Church and the Pope disagreed over issues like divorce and marriage which lead to the decline of power of the Catholic Churches in Europe.
