Our topic we researched dealt with the correlation between people spreading gossip and rumors about each other and how their relationships are affected. The predicament that we are most attentive in learning about is why people tell rumors about others and how it affects their relationships. From what we have learned from our pre collected data is that not limited to just in school, but that some people spread rumors as a way to intimidate others and gain status or popularity. As a result, we concluded that since only one student out of the fifty students we surveyed had a relationship that was ruined, our hypothesis would not be correct. While people may be affected by gossip and may think that it is not beneficial to having a strong relationship, it does not harm as many relationships as we thought it would. Even though the our hypothesis was wrong, more than half of this student population did agree that gossip and rumors have ruined their relationship. If we could do this research over again, we wanted to ask more specific questions relating to the topic and maybe pick a better and more distinct topic that is not so vague. In a way, our outcome corresponded with the literature search we had conducted. The bystanders could be a friend that is afraid to stand up for them causing their relationship to fade, but other than that, I personally think our questionnaire turned out having little or no association with what we found while reviewing the literature.
