Science and medicine go hand in hand, especially as it works with genes and DNA. Research and study of genetics has uncovered some underlying disorders that can now be treated because of science. Stem cells have been known to have multiple benefits when it comes to medicine. This research has not only generated treatments for health issues such as medicines, but also allows reconstruction of cells or tissues that need repair. The NIH Stem Cell Information Center stated, “Stem cells, directed to differentiate into specific cell types, offer the possibility of a renewable source of replacement cells and tissues to treat diseases including macular degeneration, spinal cord injury, stroke, burns, heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.” This quote gives insight on the direct uses for stem cells and the way that they are becoming a useful device in medicine. Stem cell research is also known to be of use in cancer research and treatments. This is a positive effect of stem cell research which people tend to …show more content…
The two are easily connected through the actions of Victor and his interest in science and the study of the human body. Victor’s ideas were not crazy or out of the ordinary; people have thought up similar theories as his. The way that Victor expected to create his human is what makes it a different story. Cloning and genetic altering uses objects taken from one organism to create a second, but not parts. Cloning uses genes and DNA. Frankenstein is based on the idea that a living human can be created from dead human parts, which is impossible as it is expressed in the novel. Victor tries to accomplish the same goal but uses a different approach. Cloning falls more clearly into today’s society and how things work using technology now. The novel Frankenstein contributes to the population’s view on cloning and genetic research. The creature that Victor made is a key figure in all the mishaps that are possible in science experiments, especially similar ones to
