Sweaty palms, dry mouth, and broken words are nervous attributes that many students all across college campuses feel on their first few days of classes. In some sense, it is a new world, a new adventure opening doors to their dreams and potential careers. Yet those dreams are sometimes overshadowed by challenges, identified as college pressures. Students facing these college pressures are overwhelmed and are struggling to adjust to a new lifestyle. With so many opportunities, and new found independence, it is no surprise that college pressures are leading to an increase in college dropouts and lower GPAs. It is by far the hardest to overcome, and the least likely for a student to escape. A student that knows how fortunate they are to be at college knows how important it is to everyone around them that they succeed. This outside pressure ultimately becomes a self-induced pressure, they cannot let anyone see them struggle. A student may hide their struggles by spending extra amounts of time in the library or studying four hours upon hours before an exam. A student that is experiencing self-induced pressure would appear at times socially withdrawn. Their sole purpose will be to receive exceptional grades in all attempted courses. A range of emotions are felt by students experiencing self-induced pressure. They often have extreme highs where they feel as if they could accomplish any task set before them, but extreme lows where they feel as if the world is against them, and their tasks are unattainable. They have high levels of anxiety that will be evident when course projects are due and exams are taking place. This type of pressure can make or break a student’s ability to ultimately succeed and receive a degree from their institution, and combined with the other pressures- it becomes easy to see why students are overwhelmed on a daily
