When getting a divorce there are often steps that bring an individual to want to pursue this type of act. An unhappy marriage can lead to arguing and fighting between the two individuals involved and sometimes the children are around to see it. Ahrons stated, “That ongoing serious conflict between the parents has negative consequences for children is now widely accepted…” The adults overlook what effects the child because they aren’t happy and it begins to effect their parenting. A child’s happiness relies on the happiness of their parents. “…If the parents focus on their own emotional problems, their attention towards their child becomes increasingly reduced and in this case the child may develop an insecure attachment style towards both of his parents, feeling unsafe and abandoned, neglected not only by one parental figure, but by both of them” (Motataianu 161). By this point the adults might realize it is affecting their child and in order to be a better parent, they believe the best thing to do is to pursue a divorce, not only for themselves, but for the betterment of their child. Divorce can cause a child many negative effects within their life. “…Evidence suggest that parental divorce (or some fact connected with it) is associated with lowered well-being among both children and adult children of divorce” (Amato 23). Children who have divorced parents can become angry with there parents because of not understanding what’s going on. It can also cause a child to want to act out and have difficulty communicating with others. “Amato and Keith (1991) reports that children of divorce have more difficulty than children in intact families adjusting both socially and psychologically. Surveys show that children of divorce are more likely to exhibit behavior that is antisocial, impulsive, or acting out” (Gruber 805). With a child having issues with communication and being impulsive it can make it hard for them to make friends. This could cause depression and the feeling of being alone. These challenges can be avoided by a stable household and both parents raising the
