During spiritual winter, it is normal to feel like God is not hearing our prayers or speaking to us. We may feel like we are having a "wilderness" experience. Our inclination is to pray harder or more or anything but to remain; but we must remain in the season of rest. We may feel like our ministry is unfruitful and assume it is dying. But during winter, there is no fruit bearing and it is a time or spiritual rest. In winter, reflect on God and God 's faithfulness to you and maintain an attitude of reverence before God.
The Book of Haggai, second shortest in the Old Testament, has a potent message. It tells us to put first things first in our lives. God had given the Jews an assignment to finish building the temple of Jerusalem when they had returned from captivity. After 15 years, they still had not completed it, like many of us. God has called us to complete an assignment and like some students in a classroom, many fail to complete the assignment, which leads to consequences. They were more concerned about their own homes than finishing God’s work. Many of us today are more concerned with becoming rich and famous or living a, what we feel is a simple life. God’s blessings were withheld, while they were concentrating on building their own homes. They no longer put God first. Moses predicted that this would happen in Deuteronomy 28:38-45, if the people reject God.
If I were to ask you, who is the head of your life, many would say God. However, your life, actions and environment speak differently. Many people are in denial. They believe they can pray to God to meet their needs but not live the lifestyle that is pleasing to God. As a child is told when he is doing wrong, “That is a No, No!” You have to adhere to God’s commandments and his instructions.
Our priorities involving our occupation, family and God’s work are often CONFUSED! Jobs, homes, vacations, and leisure activities may rank higher on our list of importance more than God. What is most important to you? Where is God REALLY on your priorities list?
