Jerusalem has long been referred to as one of the most holy geographical locations on Earth and home to the sacred Temple Mount. Temple Mount has served as a central location for religious worship to numerous different religions and rulers, yet despite this unity, it has caused much separation throughout the land. The history of the Temple Mount dates back to a time filled with religion, bloodshed, and conflict and has continued this pattern century after century. Under the Christian faith the Temple of Jerusalem played a vital role surrounding the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ. Jesus was taken to the Temple and there he was presented to the Lord along with a sacrifice in accordance to the Law of the Lord. Similar to the way Jesus is viewed in Christianity the Koran is equivalent in Islam. However, Muslims view Jesus as a prophet but not as the son of God. Muslims claim that upon conquering the city of Jerusalem in the year 638 they found the Temple Mount to be in an abandoned state. The platform was restored and on it, they built the Dome of the Rock which was completed in the year 691. Referring to the Temple Mount as the Haram Al-Sharif or the Noble Sanctuary Muslims consider it as the third holiest site in Islam.
