The 1960s was period of time that saw great changes in Australian society due to the evolution of popular culture. This created the ideal consumer for producers to reach and the television industry began to be supported by advertisements, which influenced the way Australians wanted to look, act and live. As such a high percentage of content was American, this meant that Australians were being exposed to American products and ideas. American concepts like consumerism and material ambitions also fitted well with Australia's new pleasure-seeking suburban ideals.
