This type of psychology is called “media psychology.” Media psychology has not clearly defined definition and no career paths. According to Pamela Rutledge, Ph.D., M.B.A., Director of the Media Psychology Research Center, “We need media psychology because media technologies are proliferating at the speed of light with new toys and gadgets on the market every day. These technologies are introducing capabilities that are redefining the way we work, play, and communicate.” She thinks this because media technology can help people adjust to new technologies coming out at a rapid pace. There are many misconceptions about media psychologists. Media psychology is not a clinical degree, a medical study, or having to do anything with being on television. Media psychology is psychologists having to learn psychology and technology. If someone wants to study media psychology that person has to understand how media technologies work, are developed, produced and consumed. A media psychologist has to apply psychology to technology.
