All EM rays are made up of particles called photons that travel in a wave like pattern that can move at the speed of light. The three types of UV rays that come from the sun are, of course, UVA and UVB, but also UVC. UVA rays have the longest wavelength of the three.
When you are exposed to UVB it helps with your skin producing vitamin D. There are lots of ways to determine how much UV rays you are exposed to. These include altitude, weather conditions, geography, and more. The closer you are to the equator the stronger the UV rays. If you are in an area with snow, water, pavement, and sand your exposure to UV rays is greater. This is due to the properties having reflective surfaces.
