Body System Most Affected
The body system that is most affected by T cells is the Immune System because their job is to recognize and destroy antigens. Antigens are different kinds of protists, bacteria, and viruses that are harmful to the body. They recognize these antigens using a protein structure on the cell surface …show more content…
They do this by either directly killing the antigen or they release or by releasing chemicals called cytokines, which can stimulate other cell that are capable of killing the antigen (The Gale Encyclopedia of Science 1). The first step in the destruction of the antigen is the activation of the T cells. Once the T cells are activated they are stimulated to multiply. It results in the production of thousands of identical all of which are specific to the original antigen. This process ensures that cells are produced to create a successful immune response.
Malfunctions
T cells can over-produce and become cancerous. When this happens they begin to become stimulated at random and kill other good cells and bacteria (Science in Context 2). This is bad because the body needs good bacteria and cells to function properly. If this happens it will show up through tumors or red spots that look like bruises. They will show up anywhere from your face to you thighs.
Conclusion
That is everything that I have learned and that I know about T cells. This was very interesting for me to research because these are the cells that cause lymphoma, and my mom had a friend who died of lymphoma last year. I wanted to learn more about what caused it and what the symptoms are. I learned that T Cells
