So things that can contribute to policy differences in states is that all the states have a certain set of rules that they have to abide by and follow. Since the political structure is similar for all the states they follow the rules but each states choices are different (smith 8). In the city of Rockford, IL our sales tax is 8.25% but in the city and state of Atlanta, Georgia their sales tax can vary from 4-8% (taxrates). Each state can interpret the rules and make choices differently to fit their state accordingly. When dealing with our political culture there are three different types of cultures moralistic, individualistic, and traditionalistic cultures. A moralistic culture which is based off morals and is a culture that views politics and government to achieve a good and just society. Its notion is that the government must intervene for the greater good of society. With individualistic culture its notion is that the government should provide the people with what they need and a little bit of what they want but should not intervene. An example, of individualistic culture would the governor of New Jersey Chris Christie he has the viewpoint of achieving individual goals and wants not much government intervention. Both moralistic and individualistic culture believe in the government providing what they need. Now for moralistic they rely more on the government than individualistic culture who really doesn’t want that much intervention by the government.
Lastly, you have traditionalistic culture that views politics and government as a means to keep things traditional. Like moralistic states, it believes that government serves a positive role (smith 13). But the difference between moralistic and traditionalistic states believe the larger purpose of the government is to maintain the existing social order (smith 13).
