Syphilis develops different signs and symptoms depending on the stage it has reached. During the first stage, syphilis develops a painless sore on the site where the bacteria entered the body. This symptom usually reveals itself after three weeks of infection. There is swelling of the lymph nodes in the area of infection and around the genitals. The sore may heal, but the disease remains in the body and can pass the disease to another person.
