After going to these few days of practice, I learned how to do a front jump (forward jump and dive), back jump (backwards dive), and approach (3 steps to the diving board). However, before even starting to dive, I had to face my fear of the fact that I was falling into a pool, whether it be forward or backwards. We tried one technique to get us use to going into the pool backwards; we were to lay head first on top of a folded up tumbling mat, then extend our arms out straight and hold them together at the fingertips as if we were diving in already. Next, we had to keep our legs straight and on the count of three one of our two coaches pushed us in backwards, while the other would watch how we performed the dive from the side. Joining this team, even if it was for less than a week, was one of the best decisions I have ever made.…
