Not everyone with suicidal thoughts are willing to seek help making the problem too common, and something are society today is dealing with. One main focus that comes into play when dealing with possible suicide is the ability to identify the signs and knowing how to properly deal with a situation as such. I propose to emphasize on the main solution in effect now. Suicide awareness month, seems to shed light on the drastic changes suicide may cause and how such matters can be prevented. A hotline designed to help those in a crisis and feel like they have no other options, just having someone listen and the ability to help. Another impact of suicide awareness month highlights counseling, counseling seems to work in many ways and similar to the hotline a way to talk out the problems and having someone there to aid in the right direction. Or just the idea of speaking up, if one knows someone dealing with suicidal thoughts speaking out does so much good. Education for teens should start in schools, the same way students are required to learn about sex-education, mental illness and other issues should be addressed. In many high schools today just that is in full affect in health classes the physical health and mental health are discussed (Waters). Several high schools require their students to take a health class and for there on out the administration has full control over what’s taught to their students. In this classroom setting is where students become aware of risk factors such as, a friend jokingly stated that want to kill themselves, a recent loss, low self-esteem, and extremely cynical outlooks on life (Woodward). While these signs may or may not seem easy to recognize it should be noted that, if someone mentions taking their life, don’t overlook it; because suicide is not a joke and every incident should be taken seriously and is not something to joke
