When I am stressed out I try to go with a problem- focused coping mechanism, but then I usually resort to emotion- focused coping. This strategy is usually a problem- focused coping strategy. For example: a certain school week this year i felt so overwhelmed with school work that I didn’t take the time to eat or get the adequate amount of sleep. I knew right away I needed to find a coping strategy for this workload stress, so then I laid out my options. I could keep skipping lunch and give myself time to play on my phone at night, or I could start eating right and put the phone away at night. The second option was more practical and would be more effective. Once the stress of school started piling on it was too much to take. I knew I needed to talk to someone about this stress and all the things bothering me. In the end I took the problem- focused coping route and decided to talk to a counselor outside of school about
