Even though fans would fill up stadiums, seating 50,000 to witness the highest level of play , doping would ruin the “spirit of the game”. The spirit of the game or good sportsmanship is demonstrated when a player plays fairly. Many think by legalizing steroids, the game would become more fair because all players would be able to take them. By legalizing doping, “Athletes who wanted to live a healthy existence would be pushed out altogether” (Mientka). However on the other side, athletes are already being pushed to the side by those sneaking steroids into the game. The playing field currently is already unfair because, “competitors face a probability of only 2.9 percent in getting caught” (Mientka). But by legalizing performance enhancing drugs players would be forced to dope just to keep up with their competition.
