Explain- There are many consequences of unprotected sex, such as teen pregnancy and STD’s. There are many kinds of STD’s out there, but some of them are chlamydia, gonorrhea, human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis, syphilis, and genital herpes. Teenagers make up a large portion of the nation’s cases of STD’s (Samuels 12). 2.5 million to 3 million adolescents are infected with STDs each year, that makes 25 percent of the 12 million people who are infected each year (Advocates 1). The number of cases of AIDS, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, among teenagers is growing (Samuels 12). From November of 1990 to the November of 1991, cases of AIDS among teens, ages 13 to 19, increased by 25 percent (Samuels 13). Adolescents account for less than one percent of cases of AIDS nationally, but 21 percent of individuals diagnosed with the HIV disease are 20 to 29 years old (Samuels 13). The long incubation period of the virus suggests that a very large portion of these people was infected with it in their teens (Samuels 13). Also one million teenage girls, or one in ten, become pregnant every year (Samuels 12). Eight out of 10 teenage pregnancies are unintended (Samuels 12). For teenage mothers, if they go through with their pregnancy, the younger the mother, the greater the likelihood of health complications to both the baby and the mother (Samuels 12). This problem is associated with delayed or minimal prenatal care, poor nutrition, and just poor lifestyle factors (Samuels 12). AIDS is also the sixth leading cause of death for teenagers (Advocates
