Stanley Hauewas states, the early church had a model that I still find affective for choosing leadership today. Hauerwas refers to the Luke’s writing in the book of Acts 6:2-3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Luke writes in this chapter a need to have more leaders to help meet the needs of the widows in the early church. The first thing I in see in this verse is the word brothers. This word is used to describe followers of Christ. Then the verse says chose seven men of good repute. According to The Moody Bible commentary reputable men whose character was known by others. Though serving widows might seem like a mundane task, those chosen should be full of the spirit of wisdom. This means they should be obedient to the Spirit of God leading and of sufficient experience and knowledge to make disciples consistent with the will of God.
