Students are affected by this situation because they feel like these tests can make or break their futures. As students may carry emotional burdens if they do not receive the scores expected of them (Ferguson 1). Without students’ emotions in mind, standardized testing is used all over the U.S as well as the rest of the world to instill benchmarks and requirements students have to meet or exceed. Standardized tests also help educators find students who need assistance in certain subjects. Infact, a legislation passed in 2001 called the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was introduced to aid students. This legislation uses standardized testing scores as a tool to assist children with their educational prospects so that they can improve.
