Each child with ASD is individual in their needs and ability so assessments should be chosen to suit Joshua’s in terms of his behavioural challenges and capability.
The New Reynell Developmental Language Scales (NRDLS) is used to identify speech and language delays and impairments in young children. It would be suitable for Joshua as it uses both play-based activities with objects and colourful illustrations to gain diagnostic information about production and understanding of spoken language (Reynell Assessment 2017). Joshua’s behavioral challenges may mean that he struggles to keep his attention on the activity, however the objects and illustrations may help him focus.
