Political violence has evolved since the time after the end of World War II and the post-Cold War Era. After World War II, the first type of political violence that were more notable are the on-going riots, protest, and the guerilla warfare that continued to happened post war. When looking at case studies to analyze different types of social behavior and types of violence that occurs, individuals must look at a variety of different case studies from different countries for example the Sri Lanka’s government who finally defeated a rebel army known as the Tigers of Tail Eelam or the LTTE which was the end to one of the world’s longest civil war (Samuels, 2013). This type of political violence is aimed toward injustice of the Tamil insurgent groups who emphasized their lack of human rights and the refusal of the state to grant self-determination. Due to several ethnic disputes and tension between the Buddhist Sinhalese majority and the Hindu Tamil minority. The conflict cost the lives of an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 citizens and hundreds of thousands of civilians were displaced to different places (Conteh-Morgan, 2004). Types of political violence include riots and protest that turn into physical and violent encounters. One clear and very historical example of a riot would be the riot that happens in Los Angeles in April 1992, when police officers engaged in the beating of Rodney King. Another type of political violence is terrorism, a clear example of an act of terrorism where the 9/11 attacks on the United States by al-Qaida members with the bombing of the Twin Towers in New York or in the modern day today terrorist groups such as ISIS are the center topics of news headlines (Held, 1997). In cases that are studied, it is shown that acts of violence are greatly influenced by the individual’s belief by what is politically right and what is wrong. Is terrorism destined to win since the international community regards these groups with appeasement and legitimization, and refusing to take necessary steps to stop it? Terrorism works like a private firm. Private firms do things through traditional mass marketing while terrorist groups do it though of spectacular violence (Gupta, 2008). Terrorism has lived longer before we were born. Whether its terrorism in schools or communities, it is a day to day thing. School shootings can be seen as a type of terrorism that the media blows up. Usually terrorist want to be known as the hero’s that killed others. Is there ever going to be an end?
