The sections seem to merge into one and are closely linked together. The ‘moral economy of the household’ explains how domestic objects are used in the development of household identity. It states that television and other modern technologies are influencing the increased distance found within families. Valentine could have possibly linked this idea, to the increasing cases of mental health issues linked to isolation within families. This links with the next section which is ‘home rules: negotiating space and time’. It outlines that the rules within the home, which are set by parents, often cause conflicts between the residents. The use of examples plays a key part in the success of the book, along with the further reading, essay titles and examples. Valentine has managed to justify that the home is a place of social relations throughout the whole chapter. By continually referring to this idea it becomes embedded in the reader's mind, meaning Valentine has achieved the purpose of the chapter. If any further editions of this book are published it would be interesting to include more about how relationships at home affect behaviour outside the
