Smoking cessation refers to the process of discontinuing smoking of tobacco. Though Smoking cessation normally seems to be a very simple process, in real sense it is one of the most challenging processes bearing in mind that tobacco contains a high level of nicotine and is very addictive hence making the process of quitting not only difficult but also prolonged. Though many people have tried to abandon smoking completely, it is disturbing to note that it is only a few who have successfully abandoned this habit. Furthermore, tobacco smoking is a great danger to the patients suffering from asthma. To patients suffering from asthma, smoking of tobacco may either trigger an attack or even make an attack too worse to be controlled. According to American Psychological Association (2009), smoking of cigarettes is the leading cause of preventable diseases in the United States. In the US alone, smoking of tobacco causes an estimate of more than 480, 000 deaths annually; this means that in every five deaths one is as a result of tobacco smoking (American Psychological Association, 2009). It is clear that the smoking of tobacco causes more deaths in the United States than the deaths causes by the combination of illegal use of drugs, use of alcohol, HIV/AIDs, accidents from motor vehicles and Firearm-related instances. More than 10 times more citizens of US have died prematurely as a result of smoking of cigarette than the number of people that have died in wars in the different wars that have ever been fought in US in history. In addition to this, some of the most common side effects of this approach include nausea, irritation of the mouth, hiccups, irritation of the skin.
