Jennifer wanted to have a birthday party where every girl felt included and wanted to invite every girl in her grade. We rented the school gym, played music, hula-hooped, danced and had pizza and cake. It was low key fun and people wanted her to do it every year. Jennifer liked the idea of hosting a class-wide girls’ dance, but thought birthday presents were unnecessary and excessive and asked her guests to donate whatever they would have spent on a gift, to the school instead. Squantum Elementary’s PTO wanted to build an outdoor classroom, but struggled with getting support for funding. Jennifer's initiative of donating her birthday party provided a catapult for fundraising, which resulted in the new outdoor classroom at her school getting built. A brick with her name is at its entrance, memorializing her contribution. Our local parish, Mary Star of the Sea, heard about her generosity and awarded her a “Future Star”
