Siddhartha Gautama is known as the Buddha or Enlightened one, lived in Nepal during the 6th to 4th century B.C. His father was king who ruled the tribe, known to be economically poor and on the outskirts geographically. His mother died seven days after giving birth to him, but a holy man prophesized great things for the young Siddhartha.
He came to believe that people found peace and happiness through religion and meditation. He believed that suffering is caused by earthly desire, therefore to abandon suffering is to abandon desire. He set out to find a common ground to get rid of these pitfalls and form a more pure Hinduism. His presumable finding of enlightenment and peace after long periods of meditation would have
