Every American have heard about the American dream , even the entire world have heard of it, many of us work hard every day to achieve it, millions of people from other countries emigrate to the United States to search for it. The American dream “is what makes this land so unlike other nations, so uniquely American.” but most of us have a wrong concept of the so called “The American dream”. The concept has been misunderstood, and it have been leading the nation towards another path. Many understand this concept as fame or wealth, but what it truly means depends on every individual’s goals, depends on the things that truly make you happy. The potential in this term, in this common phrase is that it attracts people with dreams and goals to this country. Every single person coming to this country is a person with dreams and goals that want to fulfill here, these people contributes to America’s development. Also, Americans feel confident knowing that they live in the country of opportunities. On the other hand, one of the actual dangers comes when the term is misunderstood. A lot of people relates the American dream with money and possession of things, as I mention before, and this is leading our country to a place of consumerism, to a country where you are worth by whatever you wear or possess, to a country where people are willing to do whatever it takes to get where they want. “What needs to change is our expectation of what the dream promises—and our understanding of what that vague and promiscuously used term, “the American Dream,” is really supposed to mean. Happiness does not consist on the possession of things but actions, moments and special people. I think I have two American dreams, and I think I already achieved my first one, that was being near my father, He was the first reason I moved to this country, to be near him, now that I have my dad with me my first American dream is achieved. My second American dream is to have as a job whatever I would do with getting paid, I would say that I would have achieved it whenever I graduate from college and start doing my favorite thing of all, social work.
