Yu is a graduate student with a BA, all of the authors mentioned above, studied at The Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan. Emma R. Kahle has her BA and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Jameson K. Hirsch also has his PHD and is an associate professor at East Tennessee State University. They found out that greater depressive symptoms were in relation to sexual assault in college students. Additionally, they found support for the role of competence and autonomy need in the basic psychological needs set and that the autonomy and competence weakens the link between sexual assault and depressive symptoms. Furthermore the authors discovered that a lower recognition of the basic psychological needs disrupts the experience of negative life events. According to (Rowe et al., 2013) study, he states “We found that experience of sexual assault was specifically associated with lower satisfaction with each dimensions of basic psychological needs.” (Chang et al., 2015, p.
