Raja Tilekeratne and Mallika Seneviratne are Nayanas’ parents who worked as journalists at the Lake House. She was the second child in a family of four children. Nayana attended Visaka Vidyalaya and Bishop’s College for her education. Nayanas’ ambition to become a leading beautician was able to kick off with the meeting of famous beautician Janet Balasuriya at a function. It was a challenge during that time because beauty culture as an industry was not very highly rated for a young girl to venture into. Nayana was so determined and she had the vision of what the industry may become in future. She wanted to become a role model in an industry which had a lot of potential but wasn’t demotivated by the position of the industry among the society then. With the success of her first business she was able to start a salon with one hair dryer and two assistants in 1980. Nayana enrolled for the School of Hairdressing and Raymond Young School of Beauty in London and Rever Hairdressing School Hong Kong for widening her knowledge in the industry. She also worked with Wella Germany, Schwarzkopf Professional Germany, Lancôme Paris, Vidal Sassoon, Tony & Guy UK, L'Oréal, Pivot Point and Elizabeth Arden Singapore to gain better exposure to the modern trends of beauty
