When truly breaking down the relationship that Heathcliff and Catherine helf it is important to realize that they were raised to be siblings due to the fact that Heathcliff was brought into the Earnshaw family. The fact that Heathcliff and Catherine were raised to be half-siblings just adds to the dark, taboo, but romantic nature of the gothic themes. The overall thematics of the novel all aid the novel in being the great novel it is recognized as today. The settings, the characters, and the storyline all mold the novel into an amazing piece of gothic work. However, overall the way Bronte uses decay, revenge, and love to build upon the gothic thematics are not only what make the novel but they are what move the novel. If she were to remove the twisted love story and the dark revenge that motivated Heathcliff the novel would truly amount to nothing.
