He grew up in a small town near Florence and lived there until the 1480’s when he left his hometown for Milan. From there he traveled frequently until his death in France. In his lifetime he completed approximately 30 paintings. One of his more well-known pieces being the “Madonna of the Rocks”. In the painting, Virgin Mary is portrayed in the center, yet unlike earlier portrayals of a queen of the heaven, Leonardo portrays her as
