The purpose behind basic training is to unite the boys to work together in one cohesive group. Basic training is a universal action that is present in all cultures, however the form in which this action presents itself differs from each and every group. During 1500 BC, Egyptians trained boys when they were young and they would put the boys under physical abuse and harsh labor, similar to that of a donkey, while in Israel, circa 1970 AD, where Samuel Rolbart expresses how the recruits would curse at him for him cursing at them (Dyer, 1985).
