To begin Lab 10 of Chem 115, students received permission to start the lab procedure after completion of prelab. First, students made a 25.0 mL of a 0.15 M Malonic Acid and 0.20 M Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate solution and labeled it "Solution 1". After the solution was made, a piece of parafilm was used to seal the flask before mixing it well. Next, a 25.0 mL of a 0.20 M Potassium Iodate solution, using 0.080 M sulfuric acid as a solvent, was made. Before adding the acid, students heated about 25 mL of the acid in a 100 mL volumetric flask.…

An isotope is an atom containing different numbers of neutrons, differing in atomic mass. Basically an atom with a different atomic mass. What’s special about radioactive isotopes is that a radioactive isotope has a nucleus that decays spontaneously giving off particles and energy. 6. Radioactive tracers are used in science to label certain chemical substances, so metabolic processes can be followed and substances can be located in an organism.…
R.C. 5.9 Mathematics (Mobile Infant) Activity: “Stack Them Up” Materials: Stacking blocks, nesting cups, measuring cups Infants are continually growing in all areas of development. In this activity, the goal is to get the infant to stack their blocks or cups. The teacher would have the child sit on the floor or at a table with their toys.…
Investigating Properties Lab Ishan Godra SCH4U Lab Partner(s): DeSean Lawrence Ms. Boulougouris 10/31/14 Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to analyze the properties of four different types of solids: ionic, polar covalent, non polar covalent, and metallic Hypothesis It is hypothesized the samples which are shown to be insoluble are likely non polar, while soluble samples are polar. Because of the molecular nature of each type of bond, it is hypothesized that polar covalent molecules It is hypothesized that the samples which are insoluble in water are likely to be non-polar molecules or network covalent and the samples which dissolve are either ionic or polar molecules to have dissolved in the water.…
There may have been errors in the lab that may have affected the results of the lab. There may have been mistakes: a person may have not measured the substances correctly while retrieving the liquids in the graduated cylinder, or not have been watching the conductivity probe while the group was measuring the electrolyte solution. Along with these, there is also the issue of timing the testing incorrectly. Adding onto this, there may have been a slight spill where the accurate amount of the substance being used was not completely added into the water for testing.…
A. Heating Magnesium: This station consisted of magnesium, a slim, flexible, silver metal and a Bunsen burner. We used crucible tongs to hold the magnesium over the Bunsen burner until it began to ignite. When it first ignited, sparks were seen and the flame emitted a bright, white light. The flame spread across the magnesium and eventually turned it into a white, ashy substance.…
One activity that changed the way I think of math was Activity 11.29. In this activity is was about collecting 10,000 items. Often times we assume that older students understand concepts that was taught in the younger grades. Having students’ physically represent numbers and place valve helps solidify the concept.…
Being able to lose weight without having to exercise a lot of time is something everybody would love to experience Fortunately, this seems to be possible. In accordance with a research made recently, compound 14, a synthesized molecule that tricks cells into thinking they have exercised rigorously has just been discovered. That actually means that researchers from the University of Southampton in The UK could soon create a functioning weight-loss pill. What Does Compound 14 Do?…
In this lab, we carried out a variety of reactions using different chemicals and metals. A chemical reaction is when the chemical state of the substance you are testing rearranges its ionic and molecular structure. One of the reactions we experienced was single replacement, this consists of one ion switching places with another ion to form a new compound. Another reaction we saw was double replacement. In this reaction, two compounds ions are switched to form two new compounds.…
Molybdenum is ancient element and known since the 3rd century BC. This element was known as "molybdaena" at that ancient time which means graphite and galena and was confused with (naturally occurring) molybdenite. In the 17th century scientists discovered that molybdaena did not contain lead. It is well known that Molybdenum cannot be found as native element and can be obtained from the ore of molybdenite (MoS2).…
Potassium is one of the most vital elements within the living body. Potassium is one of the least dense soft metals in existence. Potassium was not distinguished as an element until the eighteenth century when it was isolated using electrolysis by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1807 in England. Potassium was the first metal isolated using electrolysis.…

Math and science is important for all ages, however, it is the foundation in the early stages of childhood that builds skills in other areas. Philosophically, math and science is defined differently. One studies patterns, while the other studies nature. Although they have differences, both subjects are the most closest to each other. In education they are connected and should be integrated with each other and other subjects.…
