The discipline of play and recreation is vital in keeping healthy balance of life and ministry. The author and his family, work diligently to create play and recreation on a regular basis. Recreation and play may include trips to waterparks, a day at the zoo, family bike rides, and many other activities. Further, personally the author makes it a priority to regularly take time for personal recreational activities. These recreational activities include; fishing, golf, hiking, running, biking, and even household projects. It is also an essential piece to author’s Rule of Life to never ask people do to something’s in ministry that the pastor is not willing to do themselves. Additionally, as a part of the Rule, to regularly do tasks and serve others in ways that seems menial or lesser tasks, such tasks as vacuuming after a church event, or shoveling snow before a service. The intention is to not only serve others but also demonstrate further acts of service.
