While reading this section on Reject Self-Report, it began to help myself begin to think about how I assess students throughout different lessons.I began to question the way I was assessing the students and trying to identify if it was effective enough to determine the outcome of the students understanding of material. I do believe that asking an entire class if they understand a lesson by answering with yes or no is not an effective way to check for understanding of material but I do think that sometimes teachers and myself will do this during a lesson if the teacher is crunched for time and needs to continue moving along. The book states “it means designing materials and space so that you’re looking in the same, consistent place every time for the data you need”. Every week students have different vocabulary words that go with the weekly reading unit. The students use the same vocabulary sheet weekly, where the students define the word, use it in a sentence and draw a picture that shows the meaning of the word. The worksheet is an example of how to standardize the format. The first couple of times the students and I used the worksheet together now the students will work on them individually in class. When the students are working on vocabulary and I’m walking around checking on the student's work it allows me to look down and see the work and identify if the students is understanding the process of defining vocabulary words. When teachers have a specific way that something is done and the students can follow the routine it helps the teacher not have to disrupt the students as they’re working and the teacher can check of understanding and collect
