Published July 18th, 2016. It begins to explain to the reader when the research of stem cells began. Firstly, Scientists in 1998 were able to figure out how to develop human embryonic stem cells. This was all just for medical research, but then it became more than what they expected it to be. They then begin to explain how the stem cells are accessed. The researchers start with puncturing the walls of early stage embryos to get to the inner cell mass. Once there, they extract these embryos. Following the extraction of the embryos they can then take the stem cells and culture them. These stem cells can be controlled /regulated to help affect different areas. Although, these stem cells need the right conditions to flourish. As stated in the discover magazine, “stem cells take their cues from the nutrients they receive” such as electrical impulses, the amount of oxygen they receive, and how much movement is made. So researches need to create that exact environment to have a successful stem cell. This article also goes more in depth on the types of research they are doing with stem cells. They also give us great detail about where they obtain these cells for each study. Which in turn is great for a reader to know, to help guide and expand
