Topic: Short Story Objective: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to identify he essential elements of a story.
As I entered the classroom, the teacher was beginning her bell ringer. After about five minutes the teacher began to review the bell ringer with the students. The teacher smoothly transition from the bell ringer into her prior review. The students where excited and engaged in the lesson. The teacher’s daily agenda, objective and state standard was posted on the board and her lesson plans were thoroughly and effectively written. The teacher quickly moved into her lesson of the day. The teacher explained the concept of story elements of a story: character, setting, plot, conflict, and theme. As the teacher explained the concept of story elements, the students took notes. Secondly, I did not feel the teacher addressed the standard in the objective. I suggested that the teacher revisited the standard and use the Tree Map to address the standard. In this case the Tre Map would be perfect. I would allow the students to examine the major and minor tribes that live in the state prior to the Europeans arriving.
Instructional Strengths and Weaknesses
The teacher should remarkable strength creating a good learning environment. The teacher displayed excellent classroom management skills. However, the teacher would benefit from the help of an Instructional Coach. The teacher should concentrate on making the lesson delivery with the objective.
