The main reason for enlisting the military was to take advantage of the educational opportunity and attain the Montgomery G.I. bill. Despite the training provided to perform job assignments, it was extremely difficult to purse college level education. For the most part each of my appointed commands required a minimum of one year on board prior to approving educational entitlements. Unfortunately, once the minimum requirement was meet other restrictions we place by leadership to rank individuals who were the highest-ranking and most senior. As I worked to achieve the conditions set by leadership it was time to relocate. My subsequent assignment imposed similar requirements, in spite of this I was finally able to attend a few college courses. Military requirement were primary and school requirement became secondary, finding a balance between the two was overwhelming at times, and online education became my only option. In hindsight there where several missed opportunities on my part, with a little extra effort and the proper motivation, I know now that my goals are attainable. Delaying my educational goals has keep me from increasing my earning potential, an article in U.S.News states “today 's young high school-only grads earn about 62 percent of what their college-graduate peers earn. To think of all those years I wasted and many of my peers have a bachelor’s degree or higher, this has truly been the significant mistake I my life.
