In a pluralistic society, groups remain separate, and their cultural and social differences persist over time” In my own words, pluralism is you being close out from other group of people and keeping your culture true to yourself and not changing yourself to no one. For example, my mother didn 't enjoy the fact that she did not want to become an american because she didn 't like what it stand for. She would rather stay proud on where she came from and chose to be close minded with other people among our neighborhood and she adapted that teaching onto me, until I chose not to keep following that path. My mother did not want me to get hurt by american girls and would prefer if I stayed with a Dominican because they can understand us better. In page 29-30, Gonzales mentioned an example on how Latina/o are having problems in assimilating into the american melting pot. He stated, “LANGUAGE IS VERY important here.” The context of the memo shows clearly that in referring to “unmeltable ethnics,” Tanton is speaking about Latinos, whom he sees as a group that could never assimilate into the American melting pot because they are racially different from people of Western European heritage.” In my own words, this statements is just saying that knowing how to speak, write, and listen in english is a crucial skill to have while living in America. Yet most Latinos won’t like to learn english and adapt to the society, so inference it makes it harder for them to find higher paying jobs/careers. In the end of the day most Latinos would rather stay at where they are working, which is food industry and other jobs. Most of us won’t be willing to learn about the western European culture because they feel to one sided in giving it a try. In my own thoughts, I believe we as Latinos should be more diverse in learning english as a second language and also accepting another heritage as well. We live in a country full of diversity and if we stay too close minded and not learn from each other than we can have a lot
