Child A is a 9-year-old girl who lives in Shropshire in a two parent home with her 3 sisters. In the past 5 years her behaviour has become increasingly unpredictable and aggressive towards her parents and others.
Observation
Child A was observed within the family home, to understand whether her behaviour is behavioural or a disorder she may have.
Whilst observing child A she demonstrates interrelationship of several aspects in her development.
Child A demonstrates some physical skills such as the use of gross motor skills as she enjoys being outside, walking the family dog with her mother and playing on the trampoline with her siblings when she can. Although child A doesn’t demonstrate a lot of participation in physical activities she does express that she likes to be outdoors with the family pets, because she is no longer able to attend mainstream education. This has prevented her from being able to participate in sports clubs, as she is mainly at home and is restricted with what she can do. Child A demonstrates good control over small muscles and can draw people such as the “child psychologist” with good detail of his clothing and facial features.
Meggitt believes that children at aged 9 should have a good ability to pay attention to others and be able to express their thoughts and ideas. But because child A shows difficulty in expressing her thoughts and ideas as she cannot understand complex language and finds it hard to adjust and communicate with others in social interactions. She uses temper tantrums as a form of communication, as she finds it difficult to think and reason with others and results in her becoming angry and aggressive, as she only understands the use of simple
