A Gallup poll was conducted by the Gallup Daily tracking survey on a sample population of parents living in the US and Columbia district. The poll aimed at appraising the education sector in America. From these poll results, one can infer that the majority of the parents have a positive impression about the use of common core state standard and its associated curriculum. However, a substantial minority argue that they have not heard or received full awareness about the standard. These critics of the common core claim that the establishment of the standard did not involve a sufficient representation from the teachers, parents and local school boards. They contend that the standard took them by surprise and there was no awareness made about the new curriculum (Ogisi & Saad, 2014).
The results further show that the majority of parents gave positive ratings to the components of common core i.e. the standards, the testing and teacher assessment. This is true despite the fact that voluminous of public school parents are principally unaccustomed with the aforementioned standards.
