The article contained numerous references to studies conducted in reference to people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Severe Mental Illness and the abnormally high rates of PTSD amongst people with Severe Mental Illness. For example the normal rates of PTSD amongst the subjects tested without SMI was 3.5%. Subjects that suffered from SMI had a higher rate of PTSD at around 28% to 43%.

This method requires a lot of time and effort but I believe it was well suited for this topic because utilizing this technique the authors were able to conduct a detailed investigation on a group of people. Also, the fact the author was able to question 851 patients over 31 months allowed the research to be very detailed and accurate.
3. Participants involved in the study

The participants that were involved in this research were all patients who were receiving treatment from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey University Behavioral Health Care- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This involved over 851 clients over a 31 month period. All clients had a total PCL score of at least 45 a indication of PTSD. The studies showed that all clients had at least one traumatic event on the traumatic life events questionnaire.
