Cognitive behavioral therapy aims at changing the way an individual thinks by using their automatic thoughts to reach their core schemata. It begins to introduce the notion of schemata restructuring. The therapist teaches their patient to adopt a more rational way of thinking and to recognize their irrational thinking. They also teach their clients that thoughts lead to their feelings which lead to their behavior. This psychological model includes social skills training as a therapeutic techniques (it also includes behavioral experiments, role playing and exposure therapy.) Social skills training is when the client identifies the most challenging types of social situations. The therapist then breaks down the situation into smaller components, role play with the client, provide constructive feedback, positive reinforcement and encourage the client to practice outside of therapy. One of the main strengths of cognitive behavioral therapy is that is uses the client’s view of the world, which is beneficial for a schizophrenic. It emphasizes on thoughts and behaviors rather than emotions . It aids a schizophrenic to become empowered by learning specific skills they may already have in their daily lives and also induce changes that can minimize the stressors in their lives. It will increase their personal strengths and develop new skills for …show more content…
Because we know its cause (that is the genes), it will aid us in understanding the mishaps of cells within one’s biological framework. It will “identify people at risk, and …. identify strategies that might allow better intervention and prevention….[it should also] identify new targets for the development of new drugs not by changing the genes but every gene is an entry point into a biochemical pathway in a cell” (Weinberger, 2014). In other words, the focus of therapeutic study will distance itself and will become categorized as a disease . This will promote the development of targeted drug therapies and will aid researchers in better understanding genetic causation (EurekAlert!, 2009). Facilitating an intensive study on the genetics of schizophrenia will open up potential for “designing compounds targeted to specific neurotransmitter systems” (Kane,
