The GADS stands for Gilliam Asperger’s Disorder Scale and is used to diagnose people ages 3 through 22 who show certain behaviors that are often traits of Aspergers. There are four subscales that the person is tested on. These subscales are Social Interaction, Restricted Patterns of Behavior, Cognitive Patterns, and Pragmatic Skills. These subtests are :Restricted/Repetitive Behaviors, Social Interaction, Communication, Emotional Responses, Cognitive Style, and Maladaptive Speech. These subtests measure stereotyped behaviors, fixated interests, routines, or rituals. They also measure social behaviors, responses to social situations and the understanding of the intent of social interaction and communication. The subtests also measure extreme emotional responses to everyday situations, idiosyncratic fixated interests, characteristics, and cognitive abilities. They are also tested on items that describe deficits and the idiosyncrasies in verbal communication.
