People are thinking about getting rid of school athletics in america because they cause children to focus more on sports rather than school. According to Amanda Ripley, in the premont district in Premont, Texas, they were threatened to be shut down because of financial problems and academic failure (10). Some students have been having trouble in schools because of sports, children that are in sports from the schools are having a hard time keeping their grades up because they try harder in sports (Ripley 11). For example the Independent School District in Premont Texas cut costs, and rather than eliminating extracurriculars they neglected science labs infested with mold (Ripley 11).
