The flipped classroom may be more effective for teaching some subjects, such as math. Do you believe it is an effective teaching model that should be required in schools?
As an educator, I don’t necessarily believe it should be required in schools, but rather implemented in schools that are struggling to find ways to help their students achieve academic success. In a flipped classroom, instruction is delivered in the form of a lecture to students at home through different electronic means, and in turn, uses class time for practical application activities. Like with most things though, there will be both pedagogical benefits and challenges to this model. Research has indicated that several instructors claim that the flipped model creates a more efficient use of class time (Cole & Kritzer, 2009).
As with any pedagogical theory, the idea of using a flipped classroom model comes with its own form criticism. One research believes that the video lectures students are receiving are just modern-day versions of old fashioned instructional methods (Ash, 2012). Differences in students’ home lives is another challenge for flipped classroom model. Without the ability to use technology for viewing or interacting, some students will be unsuccessful with their academics (Nielsen, 2012). As an educator, I truly believe that schools and teachers should implement different teaching models and instruction that are the most effective for their students because not all instructional models work for
