In 1763 at the end of the French and Indian War, the British issued a proclamation which is known as the Proclamation of 1763. This proclamation was mainly to stop the Indians by stopping the intrusion of settlers on their land. “The Stamp Act Congress met in New York City in 1765 to discuss the Stamp Act, which required that stamps be placed on newspapers, legal and commercial papers, playing cards, almanacs, and other paper items. The Stamp Act's passage caused a wave of protests and demonstrations throughout the 13 colonies.” (ABC-CLIO) The colonist almost immediately reacted and rebelled against this motion. “Although the Stamp Act was repealed in 1766, Parliament paid little attention to the demands of the colonists when making its decision. The Stamp Act Congress marked the beginnings of cooperation between the 13 colonies that ultimately led to a full movement for independence.”
