Though many might think otherwise, I for one don’t feel like my race or “People” are better than any other. Yes we might not look the same but we are all equal an there’s a beauty in that because we can all lean, learn, teach, speak and share with one another. As I read the essays given, I noticed that most of the text was the same information but all from different writers. I read that Whites, don’t acknowledge the feeling of dominance over other races. I read from McIntosh in the Unpacking the invisible Knapsack, “Silence and denial surrounding privilege are the key political tool here... Equality or equity incomplete, protecting unearned advantages and conferred dominance by making these subjects taboo. Most talk by whites about equal opportunity seems to me now to be about equal opportunity to try to get into a position of dominance while denying that system of dominance exists” (Rothenberg-McIntosh, 2016). In today’s society being white and being classified as superior is kind of a norm. Like its normal to believe that white people may be “better” than other races because history has portrayed it that way countless of times. It’s as if people use the “whites” as something to look up too, they base their lives and goals off of these …show more content…
155). This is all of way to make people believe what clearly isn’t there, that we aren’t all equal though they claim we could all be. It’s a divided notion and people continue to believe in all these lies. McIntosh also writes about the invisibility of white privilege in society in her essay white privilege, she states “I think white are not to recognize white privilege as males are taught to not recognize male privilege” (Rothenberg-McIntosh, 2016). People are raised by people who have been taught the same things over and over, like children who lead and are led by their parents they take everything in until they are old enough to make their own decisions and life choices. So if a child is raised to believe that all people, no matter the color of their skin, are created equal and should be treated equally like all others there shouldn’t be a reason why that child won’t grow up the believe this is true unless a situation comes up an presents itself otherwise. White people are taught that they have privilege over other races, that they are superior and should be treated as such. An interaction can cause a child to develop an opinion of other ethnicity when watching others interact with other races
