Dementia therefore usually causes distress to both the sufferer and their families. Currently there is no certain cure for dementia, however Blondell et al. (2014) found that physical exercise can be a key aspect of preventing dementia from occurring. They reviewed 47 elderly individuals, 21 of which on cognitive decline and physical exercise and the remaining 26 with dementia. Using meta-analysis, their findings suggested that there seems to an association as individuals in physical exercise; in that those who participated in higher levels of physical activity were at a reduced risk of cognitive decline.
