Hypothesis 1: In order to see if sex, age and education impact political engagement. It is predicted that interest in politics (REP_05) will be higher in younger people (AGEGR10), and have a high degree of education (DH1GED). The corresponding null hypothesis is that age (AGEGR10), and highest education degree (DH1GED) have no impact on a respondent’s engagement in politics.
2. Hypothesis 2: In order to see if interest in politics is related to voting in the last federal election. It is predicted that interest in politics (REP_05) will be higher in people who voted in the last federal election (VBR_10) than those who did not. The corresponding null hypothesis is that voting in the last federal election (VBR_10) will have no impact on a person’s interest in politics (REP_05).
3. Hypothesis 3: In order to see what media channels impact civic participation in the last federal election. It is predicted that people who voted in the last federal election (VBR_10) use the internet to follow news and current affairs (MCR_320E) in comparison to traditional news media outlets (MCR_320A to MCR_320D). The corresponding null hypothesis is that media outlets (MCR_320A to MCR_320E) have no impact on a person’s participation in the last federal election
